On isomorphisms and similarities between generalized Petersen networks and periodically regular chordal rings
نویسنده
چکیده
Generalized Petersen (GP) networks and periodically regular chordal (PRC) rings have been proposed independently to ameliorate the high latency and extreme fragility of simple ring networks. In this paper, we note that certain GP networks are isomorphic to suitably constructed PRC rings, while other varieties correspond to PRC rings that closely approximate their topological and performance attributes. In the absence of equivalence and similarity proofs in the opposite direction, our results indicate that PRC rings may be preferable to GP networks in the sense of covering a broader family of networks and offering greater flexibility in cost-performance tradeoffs. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Periodically Regular Chordal Rings are Preferable to Double-Ring Networks
The susceptibility of ring networks to disconnection as a result of one or two node/link failures has led to a number of proposals to increase the robustness of such networks. One class of proposals, discussed primarily in the networking and communication communities, but also advocated for use in parallel and distributed systems, involves the provision of a second ring to improve system throug...
متن کاملPeriodically Regular Chordal Rings
ÐChordal rings have been proposed in the past as networks that combine the simple routing framework of rings with the lower diameter, wider bisection, and higher resilience of other architectures. Virtually all proposed chordal ring networks are nodesymmetric, i.e., all nodes have the same in/out degree and interconnection pattern. Unfortunately, such regular chordal rings are not scalable. In ...

ae THE following are corrections to this paper which appeared in the June 1999 issue. We clarify them here since the errors make statements which may appear invalid or difficult to understand.
متن کاملBroadcasting in generalized chordal rings
Broadcasting is an information dissemination process in which a message originating at one node of a communication network (modeled as an undirected graph) is sent to all other nodes by means of calls involving two nodes at a time, with each node participating in at most one call at any time. We are interested in efficient broadcasting in a class of cubic graphs known as generalized chordal rin...
متن کاملDistances in Generalized Double Rings and Degree Three Chordal Rings
Generalized Double Rings (N2R) are compared to Degree Three Chordal Rings (CR) in terms of average distance, diameter, k-average distance and k-diameter. For each number of nodes, structures of each class are chosen to minimize diameter and average distance, an approach which is shown to result in all other parameters being either minimized or nearly minimized. Average distance and diameter are...
